The Masters: UK Hopefuls Aim To Conquer Augustas Famed Green

As the world prepares for what is considered one of the most prestigious golf tournaments, The Masters, UK hopefuls have their sights set on conquering Augusta's famed green.

The Masters: A Brief History

The Masters tournament has been held annually since 1934 at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It is one of the four major championships in professional golf, alongside the US Open, the Open Championship, and the PGA Championship.

For avid golf fans, it is considered the holy grail of tournaments to win as it contains one of the most iconic greens in the game, the Augusta National Golf Club, where legends such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jack Nicklaus have all won.

UK Hopefuls Set Their Sights on The Masters

Despite being held in the US, a number of UK golfers have their sights set on triumphing at Augusta. In particular, some of the most promising UK golfers to watch out for include Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Fleetwood, currently ranked 20th in the world, has already tasted success in the US, having won the 2018 Ryder Cup alongside Francesco Molinari. However, The Masters has always eluded him, and he will be hoping to change that this year.

Similarly, Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick both have impressive records and have been tipped as contenders for the green jacket. Hatton is currently ranked 22nd in the world and recently won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, whilst Fitzpatrick finished top of the pack in the 2020 DP World Tour Championship.

Golfing Stars Return to Augusta

It's not just UK hopefuls returning to Augusta National; some of the biggest names in golf are also set to make an appearance. This year's field includes Tiger Woods, fresh from his historic 2019 win, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka, amongst others.
